about IISEE


What we do

International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (IISEE) invites engineers and researchers from earthquake prone developing countries, provides training on seismology and earthquake engineering, and performs research and development related to the field. By October 2008, a total of 1,357 participants from 95 countries had been trained in IISEE. We have played an indispensable role in the mitigation and prevention of earthquake disaster in the world, and at the same time has been contributing to international friendship, goodwill and cooperation through this training program.

Organization

IISEE is a part of the Building Research Institute (BRI) that is one of Independent Administrative Institutions.

Location

BRI and IISEE are situated in the Tsukuba Science City, which is located 60 km to the northeast of the Tokyo.
