W. B. Joyner and T. E. Fumal, 1984, Use of Measured Shear-Wave Velocity for Predicting Geologic Site Effects on Strong Ground Motion, Proc. 8th World Conf. on Earthq. Eng., 777-783.

2) Formula

The amplification by surface soil was evaluated using the observed strong motion records at soil sites and rock sites. The relation between amplification factor and shear-wave velocity of surface layer, which was studied by shear-wave velocity logging at the site, was proposed by the formula below. The amplification factor was defined as the amplification over rock layer to the ground surface. The acceleration, velocity and acceleration response spectrum were studied but the significant result was not available for acceleration and acceleration response spectrum of less than 0.2 sec.
