Q1. How can I register the mailing-list of IISEE Newsletter?

A1. Please let us know your e-mail address.
(If you are ex-participant, please inform us your course and year as well)
Then we will register your e-mail address on the mailing-list.



Q2. How can I put the information on IISEE Newsletter?

A2. Please make an article about your information in accordance with Newsletter No.6 and send it to us.

Q3. How can I access IISEE web member site?

A3.
Ex-participant: Please let us know your name, organization, training course and year, so that we will issue an ID.
Others: We are very sorry, but we cannot issue an ID, because users are lecturers and ex-participants only.



Q4. I am interested in your training courses.
How can I get the detailed information on the training course and the procedure to apply?

A4. Our training program has been conducted as a part of JICA training program.
So, if you wish to apply this course, you are required to meet the following conditions:
1. your country should become one of the JICA-designated countries
2. you should be nominated by your country.
Therefore, for application, you should ask JICA office or Japanese Embassy in your country.

Otherwise, if you can afford to pay all the expense by yourself concerning your stay and the training, you can enter our courses. Please see Q7



Q5. I want to apply the training course.
So, where can I get the application form?

A5. First, you should be nominated by your organization.
Then, you should submit your application to JICA in your country through your Government.
Therefore, please take form from your government or JICA office in your country through your organization.

Q6. Could you please inform me requirements and criteria
that potential participant of the training course should satisfy?

A6. Our training program has been conducted as a part of JICA training program.
So, if you wish to apply this course, first of all your country should become one of the JICA-designated countries.
Then the requirements that the applicants should satisfy are as follows.

Applicants should:
(1) be nominated by their government
(2) be university graduates in Seismology, Earthquake Engineering, Earthquake Disaster Mitigation or Tsunami Disaster Mitigation, or be university graduates in Science and Technology other than the above mentioned subjects with professional experience of three or more years in the field of Seismology, Earthquake Engineering, Earthquake Disaster Mitigation or Tsunami Disaster Mitigation
(3) be well versed in advanced mathematics such as differentiation and integration, partial derivatives, differential equations, matrix, vector algebra, Fourier analysis, etc
(4) be able to write research reports on the individual study in English
(5) have a good command of English --- minimum TOEFL score; 79 (Internet Based Test), 213 (Computer Based Test) or 550 (Paper Based Test), or equivalent
(6) be over 22 and under 40 years of age
(7) be in good health to undergo the course of training (Please be fully understand that the training over a long period like this course may pose risks to pregnancy)
(8) not be military personnel

Q7. Could you please let me know about the burden of expenses for training course?

A7. All our training courses have been conducted as a part of JICA training program.
If you participate in the trainig courses through JICA procedure, the government-sponsored scholarship is offered to you.
However, as for "Seismology, Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Policy Course" and "Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Course", you can enter these courses at your own expenses.
If you can afford to pay all the expense by yourself concerning your stay and the training, it costs about US$50,000.
(Without accommodation, it costs about US$20,000)

Q8. How can my country be selected as a candidate country?

A8. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and JICA will survey the needs of JICA group training and region-focused training courses in each developing country around July every year. Therefore, please encourage your Government through your institute to choose "Seismology, Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Mitigation Policy Course" or "Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Course" from the menu of many JICA group training and region-focused training courses with high priority.



Q9. How can I participate in the Individual Course?

A9. Unfortunately, we IISEE have no budget to invite participants to attend the individual course. Please find scholarship by yourself.
When you find it, please contact IISEE staff.



Q10. Can I get PhD in your training course?

A10. IISEE had been making efforts toward the realization of opening "Earthquake Disaster Mitigation" (Doctoral Degree Program) in March 2010. However, it is regrettable that new training courses will not start.



Q11. Can I have the official copies of the Postgraduate Diploma?

A11. We can prepare only CERTIFICATE that you were awarded a Post Graduate Diploma.
When you inform us your name, organization, postal address, training course and year, we will send it to you by air.
(You don't have to pay for issue of certificate)



Q12. I am an ex-participant of IISEE.
Is it possible to take Master's degree from IISEE in some way?

A12. Unfortunately, previous courses were not approved as a master's degree program by any university.
Therefore, when you want to get master's degree, you need to take the training course of IISEE (master's program in GRIPS) again.
