Individual Course


Outline of the Individual Course

In the Individual Course, the participants study a special subject for a period of less than one year. They devote much of their time to research in order to work on the urgent and specific problems of their home countries. The research problems of participants are refined through discussion with the staff of the Institute and researchers from other organizations.

How to Apply for the Individual Course

Qualification of Applicants

Applicants are;
  1. to be nominated by their governments in accordance with the procedures mentioned in 2 below;
  2. to have a master's degree or equivalent with professional experience of more than five (5) years;
  3. to have a definite research subject which they are scheduled to study during their stay at IISEE;
  4. to have a sufficient command of spoken and written English;
  5. to be preferably under forty-five (45) years of age;
  6. to be healthy enough to undergo the course of training; and
  7. to not be serving in the military.

Procedure for Application

  1. The government desiring to nominate applicants for the course should fill in and forward five (5) copies of the Nomination Form (Form A-3) for each applicant to the Government of Japan through the Embassy of Japan (or JICA Office).
  2. The Government of Japan will inform the applying government whether or not the nominee is acceptable to the course at the earliest convenience.

Allowances and Expenses to be borne by the Government of Japan

  1. Round-trip air ticket;
  2. Living expenses and other allowances for outfitting, books and literature, transportation and additionally free accommodation and Breakfast at JICA Training Centers ;
  3. Free medical care for participants who may become ill after arrival in Japan ; and
  4. Expenses for study tour.
