   The classification of buildings is according to purpose or use.
Group I Essential buildings and facilities. Buildings whose functions are essential to the society and therefore they should not suffer structural damage or otherwise to make them inoperative as a result of a severe earthquake.
Group II Buildings and facilities hazardous. Buildings and Facilities risky, such as producing substances stored or handled and / or chemical materials, toxic gases and explosives, whose failure could endanger other buildings. These buildings should not be damaged structural elements and not structural during the occurrence of an earthquake end, so that ensures the integrity of the facility or building, and the protection of population and the environment.
Group III Buildings with especial occupation. Buildings to be kept in operation immediately after the occurrence of a severe earthquake.
Group IV Buildings for normal occupancy.Normal occupancy buildings that can withstand structural damage render them inoperative as a result of a severe earthquake without reaching collapse or partial collapse.
Group V Buildings not included in the above groups.
