Horizontal Base Shear

V: Total horizontal seismic force
W: Total weight of building including permanent equipments
K: Total seismic coefficient for the horizontal direction calculated by the following formula;

K_O: Coefficient based on the building category (See Table 1)
K_S: Coefficient based on the seismic intensity (See Table 2, Fig. 1)
K_d: Coefficient based on the dynamic response (See Table 3, Fig. 2)
K_p: Coefficient based on the ductility and damping (See Table 4)

Total seismic coefficient K shall have a minimum value of 0.02.

Soil classification:

Category I: includes rock and rock-like soil and dense hard soils, such as dense sand or stiff soil and dense hard soils, such as dense sand or stiff clay on top of a firm bedrock formation.
Category II: represented by dense and medium dense soils.
Category III: includes soils of low density and soft consistency.
