Abstract:
Georgia
is situated in Caucasus. It is one of the most seismically active region in
Alpine-Himalayan collision belt. The analysis of the historical and instrumental
seismological shows, that this is the region of moderate seismicity. the strong
earthquakes with magnitude up to 7 and macrosiesmic intensity 9 (MSK scale)
occurred here. the reoccurrence period of such event is of order 103 - 104
years.
The seismicity pattern is well correlated with map of active faults of Georgia and fault plane solutions of moderate and large events are in agreement with general seismtectonic feature of region.
On the basis of multidisciplinary data (semological, geological, geophysical etc) a set probabililistic seismic hazard maps of Georgia has been compiled. The seismic effect was calculated both for ground acceleration and macroseismic intensity. GIS technology has been used for hazard assessment.
