[1] New Training Course
The IISEE Opening Ceremony was held at JICA Tsukuba from 16:00 to 16:30 on Thursday,
October 3. 9 participants of Seismology Course, 8 participants of Earthquake Engineering
Course and 4 participants of Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Course came together and
joined the ceremony.

[2] GRIPS Entrance Guidance
The IISEE regular training course is carried out in collaboration with the National Graduate
Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). While a participant enters the IISEE regular training
course, he/she is enrolled at the GRIPS’ master’s degree program in Disaster Management
Policy.

Surface Geology on Strong Ground Motion (JAEE-ESGWS) has been held on the 24th of
September 2013 at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Roppongi,
Tokyo, organized in collaboration with JAEE, GRIPS and BRI.

The 10th International Workshop on Seismic Microzonation and Risk Reduction
(10thIWSMRR) has been held on the 25th of September 2013 at National Graduate
Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Roppongi, Tokyo, organized in collaboration
between GRIPS and BRI.

[5] BMKG Delegate, Indonesia, came to IISEE
The delegate of Center for Education and Training of Meteorological Climatological
and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) in Indonesia paid a visit to IISEE on Sep 5, 2013.
They came to IISEE to study the distance learning and training module production process.

[6] Letter from Participants
Dr. Federico David Guendel, Former Director IMS Division CTBTO
(Costa Rica, Seismology course, 1975-1976)
Dr. Guendel expressed his great sadness to have learned of the passing away of the
former Director, Dr. Sadaiku Hattori on Sept. 7, 2013. Dr. Hattori was his supervisor
in his individual study. They made a field trip together.
