About the edition |
1st Edition: Published in 1988 2nd Edition: Published in 1993 3rd Edition: Published in 2007; ISBN: 978-964-9903-41-5 4th Edition: Published in 2015; ISBN: 978-600-113-128-8
The 4th Edition is composed of 7 Chapters and 5 Appendixes. The First chapter provides general seismic provisions on the structural and architectural integrity and classification of buildings, as well as the definition of design objectives. Chapter 2 provides the seismic ground motion (SGM) parameters, hazard zonation map, design spectra, the need to develop site-specific design spectra, and the standard procedures for selecting and scaling SGM records. Chapter 3 presents the seismic design requirements for building structures including basic requirements for structural members, providing continuous load paths, structural system selection, linear/nonlinear analysis methods, and control of drifts/deformations. Chapter 4 is dedicated to the seismic design requirements for non-structural components. Chapter 5 illustrates seismic design requirements for non-building structures, including non-building structures similar to buildings, non-building structures not similar to buildings, and non-building structures supported by other structures. Chapter 6 has presented geotechnical seismic requirements to protect structures from geological hazards such as liquefaction, landslide, faulting, and sinkholes. Chapter 7 specifies additional seismic guidelines and special considerations for the masonry buildings. The 5 Appendixes describe the hazard zonation map of Iran; and provide extra technical support for designers on P-Delta effects, diaphragms, and soil-structure interaction. |

5th Edition: Draft will be released in early 2024
The 5th Edition will contain 7 Chapters and 11 Appendixes. The First chapter provides aspects and general rules of the code. Chapter 2 provides the seismic ground motion (SGM) parameters, hazard zonation map and spectral acceleration map, design spectra, seismic design category, the need to develop site-specific design spectra, and the standard procedures for selecting and scaling SGM records. Chapter 3 presents the seismic design requirements for building structures, including basic requirements for structural members, providing continuous load paths, structural system selection, linear/nonlinear analysis methods, and control of drifts/deformations. |

Editorial Note |
Chapter 7 specifies requirements to be considered for designing the structures with dampers and/or base isolators. The 11 Appendixes describe the hazard zonation map of Iran and spectral acceleration map and provide extra technical support for designers on nonlinear structural design, diaphragms, soil-structure interaction, seismic design of non-structural components, infill effects in modeling and design, P-Delta effects, period of non-building structures, geotechnical issues, test approaches in using dampers and base isolators. |
