Code Name ISO3010: Basis for design of structures – Seismic actions on structures
Issued by
Revision The first edition is ISO3010 : 1988 “Basis for design of structures – Seismic actions on structures”, canceled and replaced by the second edition ISO3010:2001(E).
Horizontal Base Shear

VE : Base shear force for ultimate limit state or serviceability limit state

W : Total weight of the building

γE  : the load factor as related to reliability of the structure informed
                    in Table 1

kZ : seismic hazard zoning factor

kE : representative value of earthquake ground motion intensity
                  informed in Table 1

kD : structural factor as related to ductility, acceptable deformation
and restoring force characteristics, and also related to
overstrength of the structure informed in Table 2

kR : normalized design response spectrum (Fig. 1)

( = kRO : recommended)
(≥ [1/3 to 1/5]・kRO : recommended)

T : the fundamental natural period of the structure

kR0 : a factor dependent on the soil profile and the characteristics of
the structure, e.g. the damping of the structure; for a structure
with a damping ration of 0.05 resting on the average quality
soil, kR0 may be taken as 2 to 3.

TC & T'C : values from table 3

η: an exponent that can vary between 1/3 to 1.
