International Symposium held by the Japan Association for Earthquake Engineering (JAEE)

The Workshop on ISO/TC98 Current Activity and National Structural Design Codes has
been held on 13th of November 2013 at Tokyo, organized by Institute of International
Harmonization for Building and Housing. 8 participants from our earthquake engineering
course attended this workshop as a part of training.

The study trip to damage areas of the 2004 mid Niigata Prefecture Earthquake and the
2011 Tohoku Earthquake was very advantageous trip. “Thank you very much. I learned

(2)Mr. Shafiq Ur REHMAN (Pakistan, Seismology Course)
The four days’ field visit was organized for study of earthquake and tsunami disaster,
response and recovery in Niigata and Miyagi prefectures after the 2004 Mid Niigata prefecture
earthquake and 2011 Tohoku earthquake, respectively.

(3)Mr. Adhi Yudha MULIA (Indonesia, Earthquake Engineering Course)
2004 Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake and 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 are
vastly devastating in different scale.

First of all, I would like to thank the magnificent guidance of Tsuji-sensei and
Fujii-sensei. They really taught us a lot.

To enjoy the autumn season, IISEE had an informal “maple viewing” lunch party on
Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Almost 30 people including 21 training participants
joined the party.

It is a great honor for IISEE to announce the news that ex-participants took
doctoral degrees. We wish their work continued success.

It was with profound sorrow that we received the sad news of the passing away
of Dr. Ezzelden Mohamed. Dr. Ibrahim, Professor of Seismology at NRIAG, Egypt
has passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 on age 71.
