In the difficult situation of global infection of COVID-19, we had an online opening ceremony of the training courses 
in Seismology, Earthquake Engineering, and Tsunami Disaster Mitigation for young researchers and engineers on Oct 
2nd. IISEE One year training course has started, and participants began coming to Japan one by one.

On December 8th, Professor Kenji Satake, Director of the Earthquake Research Institute, the University of Tokyo, 
gave a lecture entitled “Tsunami and Earthquakes.” The professor explained the basic concepts of tsunami generation, 
propagation, tsunami warnings, etc., citing studies of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and other earthquakes in the world.
