1. IISEE Alumni Meeting in Tsukuba

We are planning to hold the IISEE Alumni Meeting in the evening of the
November 26th during the 7th General Assembly of Asian Seismological
Commission (ASC), which is held from the November 24th to the 27th in
Tsukuba, Japan. The Seismological Society of Japan (SSJ) jointly hosts this
assembly. Further information will be given at the conference venue and at
the IISEE exhibition booth in the conference. If you are interested in this

2. IISEE Alumni Meeting in Beijing was held

On October 14th evening, the IISEE Alumni Meeting was held during the 14th
World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (14WCEE) at the Yanfu restaurant
in Beijing. 18 ex-participants, 7 their partners and 20 relating Japanese
attendance joined the meeting and renewed their friendship. We were very
happy to see dear friends to know their activities.

3. Synopsis of Master Paper (since 2006) is available

Since October 2005, a part of the IISEE training course in partnership with
the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) was certified as
Master's degree program. Today, each participant can get 'Master of Disaster
Management' ('Master of Disaster Mitigation' until 2006-2007 course)
certified by GRIPS and BRI if he/she acquires required credits.
In this database, you can read the synopsis of the Master Paper of each
participant since 2006-2007 course.

4. The 49th Annual Training Course started

The 49th Annual Training on Seismology, Earthquake Engineering and Tsunami
Disaster Mitigation courses started on October 2nd 2008. In this year, we
invite 22 participants from 11 countries including 7 participants from
China, whom we receive as part of Japanese assistance for reconstruction
after the Sichuan Earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008.
These training courses will be carried out until September next year in
cooperation with GRIPS and JICA. After getting through the courses with
credits required, the master's degree will be awarded to the participants.
So, we hope all 2008-09 participants will take the master's degree one year
later.

5. Mr. Julius Nyakaana (1999Gs, Uganda) passed away

Sad news to note
Mr Julius Nyakaana, former participant died on 3rd September 2008 and was
buried on 5th Septermber 2008 in Uganda.

6. Mr. Gergorio C. Ingco (1963-64E, Philippines) passed away

I regret to inform you that Mr. Ingco already passed away last October 4,
1996 at the age of eighty. Therefore, any personal information regarding him
is insignificant now. However, I am sending you two pictures inorder to
share with you. The first attachment is his photo taken at home with his
wife Olimpia C. Ingco who had eternally joined him last October 10,2003. The
other attachment is a group photo of the UNESCO Fellowship, Class 1963-1964
which was taken in Tokyo, Japan. It might be of any help. In behalf of my
parents, I would like to thank you for the utmost concern.
