1. IISEE-UNESCO Lecture Notes Archive is being expanded.

IISEE has increased the number of the lectures posted in the IISEE-UNESCO
Lecture Notes Archive System in the IISEE website
(http://iisee.kenken.go.jp/lna/).
We have 26 lectures opened in this system and several lectures will be added
in the near future. The following lecture notes have newly posted since we
informed in the Newsletter No.38:

2. Ms. Natalia POIATA won the Outstanding Student Paper Award.

We received good news from Ms. Natalia POIATA (Romania, 2004-05S) that her
presentation at the 2008 Fall Meeting of American Geophysical Union (AGU)
won the Outstanding Student Paper Award. Congratulations! We wish her
continued success in the future. Outstanding Student Paper Award winners
will be announced in an upcoming publication of Eos and the weekly newspaper
of AGU.

3. The news of ex-participants' death

The sad news of ex-participants' death that we received is as follows.

Mr. F.X. Marwoko (Indonesia, 1976-77S) passed away in 2008
Mr. SOEKARMAN B (Indonesia, 1976-77S) passed away in 2008
Mr. Oswell Maida (Malawi, 1993-94S) passed away a few yeas ago.

We pray sincerely for the repose of their souls.
Also we are really grateful to the ex-participants who gave us information
above.
