We, IISEE Bulletin Editorial Board, are pleased to inform you that we
are planning to feature special articles in the issues from 2010, the
50th anniversary of International Training in Seismology and Earthquake
Engineering, to 2012, the 50th year of founding of IISEE. Submissions of
articles for the bulletins would be greatly appreciated during these
three years.
Please contribute to your articles and let the world know your
activities. The quantity of an article is expected 8 pages at maximum.
We are planning to have two sections for special articles; the one is
for original research papers and the other is for reviews and reports on
topics in a broad range. Articles submitted to the former section are
subject to peer review.

We have implemented a new function to create a KML (Keyhole
Markup Language) file to plot earthquakes that are obtained by
searching the earthquake catalog, "Catalog of Damaging Earthquakes
in the World (Through 2008)"
After you conduct a search for the database at
http://iisee.kenken.go.jp/utsu/utsuweq_bak_eng.html,
its result is shown at
http://iisee.kenken.go.jp/cgi-bin/utsu/result_eng.cgi,
and you will find a button entitled as "Get a KML file" at the bottom.
Please click this button, create a KML file corresponding to the search
result, and download it to show earthquakes on Google Earth.

The principal places to visit were as follows.
*S and E courses: Usu Volcano Observatory and observed West Crater of
Mt.Usu.
*S course: Yamakoshi Region, Katakai Fault, Tohoku University, JMA
Sapporo Office, Sapporo Emergency Management Office, and Hokkaido
University.
*E course: Tohoku and Hokkaido Universities, Old Dairy Model Farm of
Sapporo Agricultural College, Former Hokkaido Gorvernment Office
Building, and Taisei Corporation.
*T course: JMA Sendai Office, Tohoku University, and several cities along

seismology and earthquake engineering. Supported by UNESCO and driven by the
International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (IISEE) the
objectives of IPRED are: to exchange information, to address policy-relevant
issues related to the reduction of earthquake disaster risk and to establish
a system to dispatch experts to an earthquake-stricken country.
This following workshop and training of trainers of IPRED will be held in
Padang-Indonesia on July 6-8, 2010, take place at The Ballroom, Pangeran
