The 4th China seismic building course has started from 5th June in the Building Research Institute. 18 structural engineers selected from various areas in China attend the training course.
This course is planned as a part of JICA project, "Human Resource Development Project for Seismic Engineering and Construction of Buildings" started after the 2008 Great Sichuan Earthquake.
Besides the lectures on seismic design, evaluation and retrofit, study trip to disaster site of the Great East Japan Earthquake is scheduled.

"UNESCO will hold a meeting of its International Platform for Reducing Earthquake Disasters (IPRED) on June 26 in Tokyo with representatives from 9 countries. The next day, IISEE, GRIPS and UNESCO will hold an international memorial symposium at an opportunity of a half century
since establishment of IISEE.
The detailed report of the events will be introduced in the next Newsletter in July, 2012. At this opportunity, IISEE published its memorial document (mainly records during 2001-2012) in Japanese and a CD with lecture notes and useful information on the Great East Japan Earthquake etc. in both Japanese and English.

As we announced in the Newsletter of March 2012, IISEE presents "Honorary Scientist/Engineer" to eminent ex-participants in the field of seismology and earthquake engineering, and the following 11 members were conferred the honorary title after the strict judgement.
This honorary title was first created as a memorial of 50 years anniversary of IISEE, and over 60 year-old ex-participants could be nominated.
IISEE praises the following entitled members for their tremendous contribution to the seismology and earthquake engineering in every country of the world.
