2. Awaji island, Hyogo Pref., Japan was jolted strongly by an earthquake of Mw6.3 (2013/04/11)

In the early morning of April 11 (05:33) an earthquake took place at the center of Awaji island
located at the south-West side of Kobe city and connected by the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge to the city.
Two intensity meters in the island administrated by Hyogo Pref. have recorded the intensity scale
of JMA 6-lower that approximately corresponds to X of the Modified Melcali Intensity scale(I(MM))
and 5-upper (IX of I(MM)) has been reported from surrounding cities including Kobe and Osaka.
Fortunately, neither victim nor total colapse of houses are reported,
but partial damage of residences. Liquefaction was also reported from varioussites in the island.
Prompt report on strong motion data from the BRI network is available at the following site.
