1. The 10th Meeting of Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS)

I attended the 10th meeting of Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) which was held
from June 24 to 28 in Brisbane, Australia. I gave a presentation entitled
“3D Quasi-dynamic Modeling of the Cycle of Megathrust Earthquakes along the Southern
Kuril Trench Subduction Zone, Considering High Speed Friction” in the session
“Modeling Fast and Slow Earthquakes in Subduction Zones.”

2. Visit to Kathmandu, Nepal -Enjoyed the Reunion-

I have been to Kathmandu, Nepal from July 7th to 11th for business meetings with various
institutions, such as the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction,
Ministry of Urban Development (DUDBC) and the National Seismological Center,
Department of Mines and Geology, Ministry of Industry (NSC-DMG).

3. Papers by Ex-participants-China, India and Nepal-

IISEE welcomes the news by ex-participants on their delivering papers.
Up to now, we have received three letters as follows:
(1)Mr. Yefei REN (2011-2012 E-Course) from China,
(2)Mr. Himangshu Sekhar MANDAL (2005-2006 S-Course) from India
(3)Mr. Mukunda BHATTARAI (2004-2005 S-Course, 2008 Seminar Course) from Nepal

4. IISEE Alumni Website has been closed.

IISEE Alumni Website was closed at the end of June. It was worked as a go-between
for participants and the people concerned.

5. Individual Studies -How are you coming with your graduation theses in the Middle?-

The Participants of 2012-2013 started their individual studies on the first of June.
Almost 2 months have passed. They are writing the master’s theses for 3 months
from June to August. Accumulating data, going to the field trips and discussing with
their supervisors, they are tackling the challenges by their own ways.
