1. Group of executive officer in charge of construction engineering, the Latin American Earthquake Engineering course closed

On Thursday, June 6th, a closing ceremony of a group of executive officer 
in charge of construction engineering, Latin American Earthquake Engineering 
course was held in JICA TSUKUBA.

2. Reports on Kansai Study Trip of Latin American Earthquake Engineering course

The first impression of the trip, it was that Japan is a country of great contrasts, on the one hand, 
we can observe a modern Japan with large infrastructure works and huge modern buildings in large 
urban areas at the same time and without going so far from modernity

3. On the 60th anniversary of the international training courses of IISEE

As all of you, ex-participants know well, the training courses that IISEE holds today 
had been started in 1960 in University of Tokyo.

4. Activity of an ex-participant from Bolivia

We have been informed that Mr. Gonzalo Antonio Fernandez Marañon from Bolivia who is working 
with San Calixto Observatory and has attended Global Seismological Observation Course of IISEE in 
2013 has published a scientific paper entitled “Focal mechanism of the 5.1Mw 2014 Lloja earthquake, 
Bolivia: Probing the transition between extensional stresses of the central Altiplano and compressional 
stresses of the sub-Andes” in Journal of South American Earth Sciences.

5. An ex-participant from Peru visited IISEE

Dr. Mileyvi Selene Quispe Gamero from Peru who has studied in IISEE one-year course for 
Seismology (2009-2010) visited IISEE May 21, 2019.
