New-created "China training course" started on 27th October 2009. This
course is carried out as a part of "Human Resource Development Project on
Earthquake-resistant Structure" conducted by JICA in order to assist for
reconstruction works from Sichuan Earthquake in 2008. This year we invite 20
participants from Sichuan and some other provinces in China. They will study
"Seismic Resistant Design" and "Seismic Evaluation and Seismic Retrofit" in
IISEE for two months. They are expected to disseminate the antiseismic
technologies into all over China, which they will acquire in this course.

We received good news from Dr. Angel San Bartolome (Peru, 1974-75 E) that
his presentation at the 11th Canadian Masonry Symposium won the Robert G.
Drysdale Best Paper Award with his two coauthors. Congratulations! We wish
his continued success in the future.

Objective of the paper: to solve the seismic problem that many adobe houses
in Peru have, using economically reinforced concrete confinements.
