1. Additional Application for the next IISEE Trainees

Additional IISEE applicants from October 2011 for one year are now under process of announcement in Indonesia, Peru, Myanmar and El Salvador. Detailed information will be delivered at each JICA country office soon. Application from other countries has been closed on 10th June 2011. 13 trainees of seismology and earthquake engineering (except the additional application) as well as 7 trainees of tsunami disaster course will be selected during July 2011.

2. UNESCO/IPRED meeting in Chile

UNESCO manages with IISEE the “International Platform for Reducing Earthquake Disasters (IPRED) and will hold its 4th meeting during 26 to 28 July 2011 in Chile for three days. Dr. Hurukawa who joined from its first meeting will participate in it from BRI. The participants will exchange the lessons from recent big disasters in Chile in 2010, East Japan in 2011, Indonesia and Peru and will discuss on the measures against earthquake disasters etc. during this meeting.

3. The 3rd China Earthquake Engineering Course started

BRI holds a training course for Chinese building engineer for four years since 2009, inviting around 20 engineers / building officials every year for two months to introduce most recent Japanese seismic building technology. This is the third training course from 7 June till 2 August 2011. The participants have lectures from Japanese highest-level lecturers and will visit the affected area of the Great East Japan Earthquake, recovery area of Kobe Earthquake, and modern technology construction sites etc.
