1. Course Objective and Goal
The International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering of the Building Research Institute (IISEE) has been providing a training course entitled “Global Seismological Observation” in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) since 1995.
1-1. Course Objective
The course objective is for course participants to acquire knowledge and techniques of global seismological observation to play important roles in the monitoring system of nuclear tests under the CTBT.
1-2. Goal
The goal is to strengthen capacities of National Data Center (NDC) and/or International Monitoring System (IMS) in the field of seismology for contributing to the promotion for taking effect of Comprehensive Nuclear Test ban Treaty (CTBT).
2. How to apply to this training course
The general information (GI) of this training is distributed to each developing country through JICA. JICA receives applications through their local office of Japanese embassy.
3. Number of Participants
The IISEE has been offering this training once every year since 1995 for participants from developing countries. The number of participants is around ten every year. In total, 177 participants from 70 countries have participated in our training course by March, 2013.
4. Collaboration with IMS/IDC
Lectures are given by lecturers from JMA, Japan Weather Association (JWA), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Tsukuba University, and IISEE staff members.
Since 2003, lectures from the IMS and/or the IDC (International Data Center) have visited us to provide a lecture entitled “Characteristics and Progress Status of the International Monitoring System of the CTBTO”, which are very effective to improve understanding of the participants on the CTBT, the IMS and the IDC.
