What is IISEE-UNESCO LECTURE NOTES

The IISEE-UNESCO LECTURE NOTES series is open-ended educational content consisting of information such as lecture notes from the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (IISEE) training courses, which is made available on the Internet free of charge for anyone to use and to study worldwide. It was initiated by IISEE with the cooperation of UNESCO and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to help mitigate earthquake disasters in developing countries.

It is based on the concept of Open Course Ware (OCW), which was launched in 2001 by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.

With more than 100 institutions around the world now joining MIT in the OCW Consortium, the OCW movement has taken off on a global scale with membership in the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.
